Nanami Kiryuu

Revolutionary Girl Utena

nanamireference

This is such a fun costume to wear! You don't see many Nanami cosplayers so I figured I'd give her a chance. My favorite thing is the skirt. I love skirts, and therefore love cosplaying characters who wear skirts. The fabric for the skirt and collar was a soft cotton, perhaps a little structureless for this project but it sufficed. The white is a nice stiff shirting, and the tie was a stiff polyesther. The stripes on the collar and skirt were bias tape, and the stripe on the tie is grosgrain ribbon.

My mom and I used two patterns, I purchased a skirt patter which worked well for this. We just tweaked it a bit in the pleats. We also sewed our pleats so they'd stay in without constant ironing. Our shirt was made on a typical button down shirt pattern. We drafted the sleeves and fit them into the pattern, then changed the neckline altogether to allow for the V-neck and collar. We will be altering this so the shirt has pontier edges and resembles more closely the uniform it's modeled after.

For the wig I bought a wig and added in two no-sew wefts on the temples. I then heat styled the hair back so it would stay, and made a makeshift braid headband. I had to mix extension colors to match the wig.

The shoes are a vintage pair I got from my mother. I didn't go with Nanami's traditional cuffed boots because they'd look silly on my and make my legs look short.
