CATS: Stuttgart Cast

This cast has my favorite designs out of all the productions of CATS in the world. The nuances and colors in this costume are beautiful and it was an amazing experience to recreate them.

The unitard was purchased from Discount Dancewear. It was painted with Jacquard Textile Ink with a special setting agent that takes out the heat element. It took 7 layers of paint. I base of grey brush strokes, second base of light peach, three layers of different peachy oranges/reds, and two layers of black. The latter 5 layers were applied with a fine tipped bottle, by hand. The shoulder fluffs are frayed organza, which I frayed in the car on the way to Chicago.

The warmers were hand knit on size 8 needles. I used black and white acylic yarns and a peach natural mohair. I wove elastic through the tops for the leg warmers to stay up.

The shoes were originally tan jazz shoes I painted black.

The wig is hand built. I started with a nylon base and hand tied Crepe Wool into it. I steam pressed the wool flat from it's curly braid and mixed colors. It took 18 hours to tie.

The tail came from a trade with a customer about 5 years ago. I just added some peach yarn into it to make it into Sillabub's tail. It's wonderfully thick.

The collar was made by my friend Shadow. She specializes in leather work.

My makeup is Kryolan AquaColor, and Ben Nye white Creme paint. False lashes were a must. The lipstick is M.A.C. in Carnal (it's discontinued now).
